The thunderous conclusion of a season’s worth of political hysteria, Cecilia Corrigan’s Motherland culminates with a performance of the piece’s full episodic cycle at ISSUE Project Room on December 3rd, 2016. Compiling video works, performance, and collaborative psychoanalysis, the piece follows a serialized narrative premiered on BOMB Magazine, mirroring and responding in real time to the mommy issues of the 2016 American electorate.
A shadow narrative of the election, Motherland is a saga of our antihero Hillary Clinton as she struggles towards her presidential throne in a landscape that blends contemporary reality, Mount Olympus, and Jerry Seinfeld’s 1998 apartment.
The show invites the audience into the physical embodiment of the Motherland universe – as sculptural and video works inhabit ISSUE's space in which they were born. The show begins with a soft opening of Corrigan’s sculptural series “H,” followed by a live performance and film screening of the Motherland opus that will reveal the startling conclusion – tying the performance and video series together.
